Τα παραδοσιακά επαγγέλματα στον πυρήνα της ταυτότητας του Μετσόβου

Με μεγάλη ανταπόκριση πραγματοποιήθηκε την Τετάρτη 24 Ιουνίου 2026 στο Μετσόβιο  Κέντρο Διεπιστημονικής Έρευνας (ΜΕΚΔΕ) του ΕΜΠ στο Μέτσοβο η Ενημερωτική Ημερίδα του  ευρωπαϊκού έργου MARKATO. Η εκδήλωση, που διοργάνωσε ο Δήμος Μετσόβου σε  συνεργασία με το ΜΕΚΔΕ – ΕΜΠ και την ComiTech, είχε ως αντικείμενο την καταγραφή, τη  διατήρηση και την αναζωογόνηση των παραδοσιακών επαγγελμάτων του Μετσόβου.  Προβλήθηκαν βιντεοσκοπημένα πορτρέτα τεχνιτών, ενώ αρκετοί από τους ίδιους τους τεχνίτες  ήταν παρόντες στην αίθουσα και πήραν τον λόγο. 

Η Δήμαρχος Μετσόβου, Μαρία-Χριστίνα Αβέρωφ, τόνισε ότι για τον Δήμο η παράδοση δεν  είναι νοσταλγική αναφορά στο παρελθόν αλλά κομμάτι της ταυτότητας και της αναπτυξιακής  πορείας του τόπου: «Η παράδοση δεν διατηρείται όταν περιορίζεται στη μνήμη ή σε ένα  μουσείο· διατηρείται όταν παραμένει ζωντανό κομμάτι της καθημερινής ζωής, της παραγωγής  και της τοπικής οικονομίας». Ο Επιστημονικός Υπεύθυνος, καθηγητής του ΕΜΠ Δημήτρης  Καλιαμπάκος (ΜΕΚΔΕ), εστίασε στην ουσία του έργου, δηλαδή την αναζωογόνηση της  ταυτότητας του Μετσόβου ως «ψυχής της ορεινής Ελλάδας», μέσω της διατήρησης και  ανάδειξης των παραδοσιακών επαγγελμάτων— και τα εργαλεία του έργου (θεματικά  εργαστήρια, ανταλλαγή τεχνογνωσίας με την Ιταλία, ψηφιακή προβολή), ζητώντας ισορροπία  ανάμεσα στην ψηφιακή τεχνολογία και στην «ψυχή του τεχνίτη». 

Η Δρ Καλλιόπη Στάρα (ComiTech) παρουσίασε τη μεθοδολογία και τα αποτελέσματα της  καταγραφής, με αναφορά στα χαμένα επαγγέλματα και στα ζωντανά (σαγματοποιία,  ξυλουργική και ξυλογλυπτική ιδιαίτερα στη Μηλιά, βαρελοποιία, κατασκευή κυψελών,  υφαντική), εντάσσοντάς τα στο πλαίσιο της άυλης πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς της UNESCO. Η Δρ  Στέλλα Γιαννακοπούλου (ΕΔΙΠ ΑΠΘ), μέσω τηλεδιάσκεψης, παρουσίασε το Τοπικό Τουριστικό  Masterplan του Μετσόβου, αναδεικνύοντας —μέσα από ανάλυση SWOT— τις ευκαιρίες  (τουρισμός χειροτεχνίας και γαστρονομίας, πολιτιστικές διαδρομές, place branding) και ως  κρίσιμο στοίχημα την επιστροφή των νέων.  

Η εκδήλωση ολοκληρώθηκε με εκτενή και ζωηρή συζήτηση τεχνιτών, κοινού και ομιλητών. 

Στοιχεία του έργου 

Το MARKATO (Maintaining And Revitalizing Knowledge And Traditional Occupations)  υλοποιείται από σύμπραξη έξι εταίρων από δύο χώρες (Επιμελητήριο Αχαΐας, Επιμελητήριο  Ζακύνθου, Δήμος Μετσόβου, Puglia Creativa, Fondazione Matera Basilicata 2019, Δήμος  Bisceglie). Το ΜΕΚΔΕ-ΕΜΠ συνεργάζεται με τον Δήμο Μετσόβου, παρέχοντας τεχνική βοήθεια στην εκτέλεση του Έργου. Στην έρευνα πεδίου (Απρίλιος 2026 - ComiTech) καταγράφηκαν 22 

τεχνίτες, με βιντεοσκοπημένα πορτρέτα και αναλυτικές ηχητικές συνεντεύξεις. Ακολουθούν 10  θεματικά εργαστήρια, πρόγραμμα ανταλλαγής με την Ιταλία, ψηφιακή προβολή, τοπικό  φεστιβάλ και τουριστικό σχέδιο, με ολοκλήρωση τον Μάιο του 2027.

Traditional Crafts at the Heart of Metsovo’s Identity 

The MARKATO Info Day was successfully held on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, at the  Metsovo Interdisciplinary Research Center (MIRC) of the National Technical  University of Athens (NTUA), bringing together local residents, artisans, researchers  and stakeholders to celebrate the living heritage of Metsovo's traditional occupations. 

Organised by the Municipality of Metsovo in collaboration with MIRC–NTUA and  ComiTech, the event focused on the documentation, preservation and revitalisation of  the area's traditional crafts. The audience watched a series of filmed portraits featuring  

local artisans, while several of the craftspeople themselves attended the event and shared  their personal stories, experiences and concerns about the future of their professions. 

Opening the event, Maria-Christina Averof, Mayor of Metsovo, stressed that tradition  is far more than a reminder of the past; it is a vital component of the municipality's  identity and a driving force for its sustainable development. 

"Tradition is not preserved when it survives only in our memories or behind the walls of  a museum. It remains alive when it continues to shape everyday life, local production and  the local economy." 

Professor Dimitris Kaliampakos (MIRC–NTUA), Scientific Coordinator of the  Municipality's technical support team, presented the project's vision of revitalising  Metsovo's identity as the "soul of mountainous Greece" through the preservation and  promotion of its traditional occupations. He also highlighted the project's key actions— including thematic workshops, knowledge exchange with Italian partners and digital  storytelling—while emphasising the importance of striking a balance between  technological innovation and what he described as "the soul of the artisan."

Dr Kalliopi Stara (ComiTech) presented the methodology and findings of the field  research, documenting both crafts that have disappeared and those that continue to thrive  today, including saddle-making, carpentry and woodcarving—particularly in the village  of Milia—cooperage, beehive making and weaving. She also placed these traditional  occupations within the broader framework of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage. 

Joining the event online, Dr Stella Giannakopoulou of the Aristotle University of  Thessaloniki presented the Local Tourism Masterplan for Metsovo. Through a SWOT  analysis, she highlighted opportunities for the sustainable development of the area,  including craft tourism, gastronomy tourism, cultural routes and place branding, while  identifying the return of young people to the region as one of the community's greatest  challenges. 

The event concluded with an engaging and lively discussion among artisans, researchers,  local stakeholders and members of the public, reaffirming the importance of safeguarding  traditional knowledge as a living resource for future generations. 

About the Project 

MARKATO (Maintaining And Revitalizing Knowledge And Traditional Occupations) is  implemented by a partnership of six organisations from Greece and Italy: the Chamber  of Achaia, the Zakynthos Chamber of Commerce, the Municipality of Metsovo,  Puglia Creativa, Fondazione Matera Basilicata 2019, and the Municipality of  Bisceglie. 

The Metsovo Interdisciplinary Research Center (MIRC–NTUA) provides scientific  and technical support to the Municipality of Metsovo throughout the implementation of  the project. 

As part of the field research carried out by ComiTech in April 2026, 22 local artisans were documented through filmed portraits and in-depth recorded interviews. The next  phase of the project includes ten thematic workshops, an exchange programme with Italy,  digital dissemination activities, a local festival and the implementation of a Local  Tourism Plan. The project is scheduled for completion in May 2027.
